A couple of years ago the idea of a sustainable world seemed nothing but a fantasy. Today owing to persistent initiatives by many corporate giants, this hallmark sounds achievable. Even then this concept is relatively new to many businesses, or rather a non-productive cost on the spreadsheets.
Among many colors of sustainability, the most important one is the societal impact; in terms of health and the environment. Organic farming, for instance, reduces greenhouse gas emissions; lowering air pollution. In a similar fashion preserving trees purifies our long-polluted air.
If we take a closer look, we’ll only find the darker shades, shades that are negating the principles of a healthier lifestyle. While bringing colors into our lives we forgot about how devastating they could be for the environment. It is estimated that each year in Australia more than 80,000 tonnes of VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) are released into the atmosphere, where the paints and coatings industry is regarded as the major contributor.
These VOCs from solvents and paints emissions contribute to harmful ozone formation and peroxyacetyl nitrate, with many other damaging effects on the human body. At this point in time, we are rapidly moving towards the usage and consumption of such harmful chemicals, where we not only harm the environment but label such creations as innovations.
These innovations of today, rely heavily on the usage of fossil fuels and rare materials. This dependency is what disrupted the balance of nature. Considering the fact that nature itself enriched us with these resources, and today with the utilization of these materials we are walking on a path to destroy the ecosystem of our earth.
Deforestation, landfills, oil spills, and carbon emissions are some of the darkest shades of today’s world. While looking for brighter and more appealing colors we are heading towards a giant palette of harmful colors. Even if we entirely stop today, it will still take years or decades to erase the impact of these colors. So why aren’t we looking for something brighter yet sustainable?
Walking towards sustainability is not only beneficial for the environment, but it is equally beneficial for businesses as well. We just need to get away from red, to bring more blues, like the way autumn brings yellows and oranges for us to harness the seeds of whites and blues. Together, for we to harvest pink, purple, green, and greener shades of sustainability.
The pallet which once had a blissful hue, is now the bearer of the uncertainty for humans, by humans
