Ever since the inception of this universe, this world has enriched us with everything we require or desire. The irony is that rather than expanding the horizons of the world, in terms of improved vegetation, and forestry, we constantly level down our eco-system. A report from the UN’s Food & Agriculture Organization says that there has been a net loss of 1.29 million square kilometers of forests between the years 1990 till 2015. Where are we heading towards? And what are the repercussions of us going along this way?
In 2018, The Guardian reported that every second, a chunk of forest equivalent to the size of a soccer field is lost. These forests which we lay down, are home to 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity, these ecosystems are complex webs of organisms that include plants, animals, fungi, and bacteria, all of whom are essential for our survival.
Over the years we have seen many companies joining the marathon of saving people’s lives. They do so by providing quality drugs to cure various diseases out there. Even we now have lifesaving drugs as well. The race is all about constantly evolving to produce drugs for a better lifestyle or rather a healthier lifestyle.
Not just drugs, but companies nowadays are producing quality supplements as well, to strengthen bones, muscles, tissues, etc. from children to adults, these companies provide all in all solutions for every possible pain or weakness a human body might suffer from. We are so concerned about the well-being of human beings, yet we deplete natural resources on a rapid scale.
40% of the earth’s oxygen is produced by tropical rainforests; it is the oxygen we breathe. A rare fact about insects and bees is that among 250,000 species of plants 88.7% are angiosperm and 90% of which are pollinated by bees and insects. These insects do what we humans seemed to have forgotten; protecting our mother nature. We not only wipe out the plants, but we wipe out the feed of these insects and bees as well.
Everything in this world has a purpose. Vegetation, trees, and ecosystems all these things are essential for humans to survive. We humans went on the moon, we are even exploring mars, to be colonized, yet we neglect the earth in a broader picture we paint. Why is that? Why are we not focusing on the repercussions?
Undoubtedly the chemicals we produce are good for humans and humanity. Are they good for the environment? The way we produce today is spectacularly out of the world. Do we consider the environmental costs in our financials? The way we innovate is nothing but magic. Are we ready for the curtain to be lifted?
A painting which highlights the beauties of the world shall be kept safely. For who knows we might need to refer back to see what we all did, voluntarily!
